Here we have Harry Hamachi, AKA 'Hamza' who is looking all grumpy and un-amused. I really like the shadow that is cast under by the table. There is something about form and shadow that been interesting me a lot lately; I have noticed it a lot in things around me and as a reoccurring theme in my work. I do think shadows help make an image pop.

Take x Rona
I just realised I never posted the final illustration for my Sharona Moon and Takeichi Nishi characters, AKA 'Take x Rona'. First I sketch my characters like, ALL THE TIME, then when I get a good one I photograph it and then trace over it in Illustrator, adding colour and detail ^_^

Girls
Lately I have noticed my graphics tablet and Adobe Illustrator have been bonding quite a bit! This is a series of illustrations that is called 'Girls' and plays with form, shape and the female appearance.

Manga Novel Rough - riso test
Following on from my previous post, here I have a rough of the first page in my shojo manga series. I decided to test riso printing my manga drawing as I was trying to fix a riso printer anyway; playing around with colours and strange combination.
Work in progress.

The Adventures of Prudence and Trayfoot
Prudence and Trayfoot are a couple of characters in a comic I've been working on that involves wizard apprentices, mischievous adventures and the funness of being young ^_^

Sketching in the Foyer
Whilst waiting in the Foyer to the IMAX Cinema, Science Museum, I thought I'd sketch some people! I made a pact to myself that as I would rather go out and draw from everyday life than spend my Mondays at Life Drawing, I need to take advantage of every moment!
What do I hope to get from doing his?
- Well, at the moment I have become slightly bored with life drawing classes. I feel I have done enough of 'drawing the body without an outline' and 'focusing on the tones, shadows and forms the body is made up of'. All I would like at the moment is to either draw the human anatomy in immense procission and accuracy or drawing people and the environments they are in whilst capturing that sense of atmosphere and place. Also, I some feedback from last year was that I need to work on my faces - so I guess I need to work on incorporating personality into each figure I draw!

(More) Digital Illustration
HELLO BEAUTIFUL!!
Here we have a screenshot of a piece I am working on at the moment for a collaborative zine with my class mates from uni. The theme is Holiday and it is to be riso printed with Yellow and Blue coloured inks. I wanted to use my manga characters and have a shot of them on holiday somewhere in Europe (Spain?). I have been using mostly the brush tool to fill in the flat colours. The hardest part in the colours and getting the right shades/hues (never know the difference) so that they fit with the characters actually colours that I envision and so the illustration is balanced ^_^ Ah and I cracked out the graphics tablet for this - I highly recommend them if one does not already own one :-)
I'm nearly done so I will be uploading the final artwork soonas and then when the zine is printed (going with Hato Press)! Yeaaaah.

Doodle Plate: Summer Briefs '14 entry
I entered this for a competition by Doodle Plate. I enjoyed getting the paints out and mixing all the colours! Inspired greatly by Shaun Tan, these quirky creatures sit on a hill during sun set. Keeping busy over summer!

Digital Illustration
Currently, I am teaching myself Illustrator. I am working on a character called Sharona Moon for one of my comic stories. All I am using is the Pen tool and Brush tool and I so excited already!! I love flat bold colours anyway. I could take these further and screen print them too...hmmmmm.
That's what I am working on at the moment during that month of my summer holiday!

Character sheet for 'Wind Spirit child'
digital illustration of a Wind Spirit child
Looks cool doesn't it?
For the past year, I have been working on an 'indie fantasy role playing game' with some friends from South Bank University and Wimbeldon College of Arts. I am in charge of character design so I made a test for a character using Photoshop so that another guy in our group can model it in 3ds max! This was my first time filling in my drawing with digital colour. I think next time I will try Illustrator (less pixelation). Other than that I think she looks beaut!
The character is a child of the Wind Spirit. She can fly and manipulate the wind (totes fantasy derivative). In this alternate world, it is common to have 'children of the...' Wind Spirit, Fire Spirit, Earth Spirit...etc. It just means they possess the attributes of that spirit. And they get to wear a funky outfit!
To paint/colour in digitally is just like physical colouring in and drawing. For me, the more I work at it and practice, the more control I have over the stylus. Painting by hand would have been way quicker for me and I would physically have an original artwork but don't they say it's all about trying out new things?

Watercolour practice
I am trying to work out how I am going to render my manga comic series. I am thinking for the cover I could use watercolour and print it in full colour, and then for the inner pages they will simply be black and white pen drawings with grey pen for variation?
Ideabook
I've started this new thing called an 'ideabook' where in this book I draw out ideas and sketches from my imagination. I already do a lot of drawing from observation so I need to balance the two. Plus, I want to work on my ideas and to strengthen them by practicing and training my mind to conjure up thoughts and ideas - hence: 'ideabook'.
So far there are mostly sketches of a new manga series idea of Wizard apprentices...

What a beautiful drawing this is!
Enchantrum of a Place |
I started it a couple of weeks ago, sat in the boot of my grandparents car (as all my horrible sisters and one of their boyfriends occupied the back seats). We drove through Bear Cross and I saw this quaint house tucked behind an archway of foliage. Instantly I knew it had to be drawn! I used good ol' Crayola crayons too.
Another drawing from the series of sketches in my A5 sketchbook that has just been completed! I have just moved to London into university halls of residence two days ago, and have no scanner. But! No fear as there are these funky tables in the common room that I have used to take aphotograph.

Owl Are You?
This was my first attempt on Paint with the Bamboo Tablet. It looks raw and unrefined but it got me hooked! And I tried to be funny by adding a pun.
Recreating Designs in Paint. Looking good eh?
Digital Illustration of the chipmunks on my socks |
What is going on with my laptop?! I tried Internet Explorer and had to install Firefox to get this upload working in the end as Google Chrome refused to work for me.
Nevertheless, here is something new I have been trying out. I've been playing on my Bamboo Graphics Tablet and recreated the patterns on my socks! I wish I could say thought of it all myself but I just copied it. Sometime soon I will create my own!

'The Cheer of Happiness' - Relief Printing
On Tuesday this week I went to a relief printing workshop at The Arlington Arts Cafe in Bournemouth. I had the idea of a jumping Chinese girl in a traditional outfit because this weeks topic on Illustration Friday is 'Bounce' and I was inspired by towels draped in my bathroom.
I just need to decide which one to submit....I think the bottom print does POP adding that bit more.
